We travel with special 4x4 trucks. Due to the 4x4 technology and the compact dimensions of our vehicles we can also visit areas which are inaccessible to conventional vehicles - and therefore remain closed to most tourists.
We don't have a "Local Payment". All excursions are included in our price! Normally we serve three meals a day.
Don’t expect the generous space and luxury of a coach! That also applies to your luggage. Please travel light (see our packing – list)!
Climate change makes no exception, even for Africa. Devastating rains and impassable roads, official directives or an altered security situation could force us to change our travel schedule. We ask you to show understanding should this occur.
Food
During overland journeys especially in West Africa you have to make compromises. These compromises start with the food. Don’t expect butter, fresh milk, or ground coffee.
Most of our food we buy fresh from local markets. We won’t find always the colourful variety of fruits and vegetables which you see in travel guides. In reality that is the exception.
We also carry tinned food in the truck for times when we can’t find anything suitable for us.
Breakfast (Tea, coffee, muesli, bread, margarine, marmalade, cheese spread or sausage - depending on our stock).
For lunch we prepare a cold snack. Or we eat on a market place in a small restaurant. There they just serve one or two different meals. African cooking - plain and good.
For dinner mostly we serve a warm meal. If we had already a warm meal for lunch, we might serve just a cold snack or fruit salad for dinner.
Do we camp in the garden of a hotel with a restaurant, normally we don’t cook. At the starting and ending points we don't cock. There you can find always cheap African restaurants or restaurants with international cooking. If we are visiting atown during lunchtime, you have to eat in a restaurant or a take away (see our tour description).
Whenever we have the possibility we light a fire in the evening
Camping life
We set up camp in the bush, near villages, on (rare) campsites, near hotels or missions.
Most of the camping grounds in North, West and Central Africa offer only the basic and have a very poor standard
We travel as a team and therefore we need your co-operation. Particularly in the daily routine your help is asked, like pitching and striking the camp and doing the dishes. The tour guide does the cooking. If you like to cook, feel free!
In Africa more the sun than the clock decides our daily routine. We get up shortly after sunrise and set off after breakfast. This allows us to make the most of the cooler mornings, gives more time for sightseeing and permits us to camp earlier in the afternoon.
Single travellers get a 2 person tent to themselves. If two people book a trip together we will provide you with a 3 person tent. All tents have a mosquito net and they are waterproof.
Additionally we put sleep mats at your disposal (5 cm thickness).
As an exceptional luxury we offer the option of a refreshing daily shower- wow! We have 800 litres (220 gal) of fresh water at our disposal and an electric shower.
Streets and tracks
Many destinations – but not all – you can reach on tarred roads. In a comfortable mini- van with air-condition. In a hotel with air-conditioned rooms. This Africa we don’t offer to our clients.
As often as possible we leave tarred roads. Off the beaten tracks Africa is still originally and even adventurous. With a delightful scenery and natural villages. Villages, not many tourists get by.
Tracks are temperamental. Washed away paths, broken bridges, overturned trees and paths which are ending in nothing.
Driving off the beaten tracks can be wearing. The adventure also has its arduous sides. Don’t forget it!

The good infrastructure in southern Africa makes travelling much easier. Good roads and tracks. A rich selection of fresh fruits and vegetables. Excellent meat – also game such as Kudu, springbok and ostrich.
We don't have a "Local Payment". Most of our excursions and meals are included in our price, even very expensive visits of National Parks. Normally we serve three meals a day.
Good camping grounds and guest farms with a high standard, All in all, the southern Africa offer a relaxing holiday in a gorgeous landscape. The animal kingdom with its National Parks – from the more “tame” Etosha Park (Namibia) to the wild Moremi Park (Botswana) shows us an Africa from its most beautiful side!
We travel with special 4x4 trucks. Due to the 4x4 technology and the compact dimensions of our vehicle we can also travel on smaller tracks and on mountainous regions which are inaccessible to conventional vehicles - and therefore remain closed to many tourists
Don’t expect the generous space and luxury of a coach! That also applies to your luggage. Please travel light (see our packing – list)!
Accommodation
All our trips are camping trips. Most of our camping grounds and guest farms have excellent sanitary facilities with hot showers and a swimming pool. In many cases you can rent a room.
Depending on your trip, we will camp sometimes on camping grounds with very simple facilities. But then they are compensating with a stunning landscape.
In some National Parks (like the Moremi Park / Botswana we do bush camping. During some trips we also have a few bush camps.
