Spend 8 days exploring the northern regions of Namibia and the Etosha National Park. Starting and ending in Windhoek, the tour includes a trip to the Welwitschia Plane, Moon Landscape, Twyfelfontein and Damaraland. Etosha National Park is one of the greatest wildlife-viewing venues in the world.
Itinerary
DAY 1 SAT WINDHOEK - SWAKOPMUND
Depart Windhoek and travel to the coast. Visit craft market in Okahandja en route. Short stop for Lunch at Karibib or Usakos (for own account). Visit Goanikontes and the Moon Landscape. Arrive at Swakopmund in the afternoon. Possibly meet at dinner fellow travellers who join the tour in Swakopmund.
DAY 2 SUN SWAKOPMUND - DAMARALAND
Depart early morning on the salt road towards Henties Bay, past some pans and an array of bird life. Visit Twyfelfontein and the Organ Pipes on way into Damaraland. Packed Lunch en route. We will arrive at our remote lodge during the late afternoon.
DAY 3 MON DAMARALAND
Enjoy a morning scenic drive in rocky Damaraland with a guide of the lodge. Return to the lodge for lunch. Spent the afternoon at leisure or join a guided walk where you are introduced to the rich flora and fauna of the area.
DAY 4 TUE DAMARALAND - OTJIWARONGO
Leave Damaraland. Visit a Himba village near Kamanjab and learn more about the culture and the tradition of this half-nomadic people. Continue via the little town of Outjo (Lunch stop; Lunch for own account) to Otjiwarongo for overnight.
DAY 5 WED OTJIWARONGO - ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK
Join a local guide on a guided morning walk through the game park surrounding your Lodge. Continue via Outjo into Etosha National Park, where we undertake the first game drive in our touring vehicle. Just before sunset we will leave Etosha again and drive to our lodge/safari camp outside the Park.
DAY 6 THURS ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK
Day excursion into the Park. Except for the rainy season, Etosha's animals are dependant on artificial waterholes and natural springs. Explore the various waterholes along this enormous saltpan, which is called the great white place of dry water in a local language. Lunch stop at one of the rest camps (lunch for own account).
DAY 7 FRI ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK
Encounter the big variety of wild life in the Park one more day. Of the 114 mammals species found in the Park, several are rare and endangered like the black rhino of the black faced impala. Your guide will also introduce you to the complex subject of managing such an enormous reserve. Lunch stop at one of the rest camps (lunch for own account).
DAY 8 SAT ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK - WINDHOEK
Depart the Rest camp or Lodge and travel south towards Otjiwarongo. Opportunity to join the group en route to Victoria Falls. Continue towards Windhoek via Okahandja where we will visit a local handicraft market. Tour ends on arrival in Windhoek late afternoon.
