North West Africa Itinerary in brief:
Week 1/2 MOROCCO:
From Tangier we head to the rif mountains to Chefchaouen and the oldest imperial city in Morocco, Fes, the Roman ruins of Volubilis to Rabat and Casablanca. Than Marrakech with its amazing nights of Jamaâ El Fna. Essaouira, popular with independent travelers. Agadir the most swarms of package tours.
Week 3/4 SAHRAWI - MAURITANIA:
Layoune and the Western Sahara to Mauritania where after the real adventure starts with 2/3 days drive along the railway line of the longest trains in the world, where the truck frequently gets mired in the soft Saharan sand (all hands on deck then). Stop at Atar and than take the track to Chinguetti. Reach the capital of Mauritania, Nouakchott than... after Senegal river the atmosphere becomes vibrant of colors and sounds all around. Pass by St. Louis, next striking landscapes of baobab trees. Dakar with a city tour, followed by the atmospheric Island of Goree, the old slave center of Senegal.

Week 5/6 SENEGAL - MALI:
From Dakar pass by Tambacounda and as we get into Mali begins the Sahel scrublands, scattered villages
with numerous herds of cattle goats feeding off the sparse vegetation are part of the road scenery to Bamako, the music capital of West Africa gives us a welcome change with lively bars, fresh fruit and colorful markets. Segou and Sekoro, ancient capital of the Bambara kingdom. Mopti's Sudanese-style mud brick mosque, the port, the market; sail on the Niger River in a traditional riverboat. Than see the Dogon villages along the Bandiagara escarpment, many examples of the typical Dogon architecture. Djenne huge mud built mosque largest and oldest mud, brick buildings in the world.
Week 7/8 BURKINA FASO - GHANA:
After Dogon country to Burkina Faso's capital city, Ouagadougou with a city tour of Grand Market, the National Museum and ancestral statues, crafts markets, batik fabrics. Leaving the harsh Sahara and Sahel environment behind, we enter fertile Ghana. Excursion to Tiebele village, onward to Tamale and on to Kumasi as Ashante capital: visit the National Cultural Center, the Manhyia Palace, and the Kejetia market which is the largest market in West Africa. Visit the Cape Coast Castle, former bastion of the Atlantic slave trade, excursion to nearby Elmina; enjoy a walking tour of St. George's Castle; finish with a stroll to St. Jago Hill for a panoramic overview of historic Elmina; drive to and overnight in Accra; where it ends this great overland tour while we rest at a campsite for almost a week on the outskirts and relax on its palm-fringed coastline. Here it ends this unbelievable cultural and musical journey.
KNOW THAT: overlanding is not about age but attitude: if you're young at heart, you will never be too old to go on an overland tour. However for travellers over 60s we do request a signed Passenger Indemnity form and Medical Certificate from your Doctor confirming you are medically fit for this type of tour.
